Shannon Saint Clair has always had a knack for designing since she was a little girl. Back in the day, she specialized in making friendship bracelets and sold them at arts and craft fairs.

Today, the 34-year-old jewelry designer has athletes like Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wadeand Chicago Bulls’ Derek Rose to singers like Grammy-winning songstress Myawearing her hand-made baubles. The Pembroke Pines resident specializes in creating everything from arm candy to earrings and necklaces using mostly genuine stones.

“A lot of my customers are players or players wives in the NFL,” said Saint Clair of her eponymous line that launched in 2008. “I made the men’s line two years after customers began asking me for one.”

Her husband, John Saint Clair, a player for the Cleveland Browns, was the first to sport the men’s line and get his teammates into it. From there NBA players and the celebrity following grew.

“I just did a wedding for one of his teammates and made jewelry for the groom, bride and the flower girl,” said Saint Clair.

While a lot of other local designers are creating baubles with beads similar in style to Saint Clair’s, she said “there is no comparison. Mine are made with natural faceted stones that sparkle.”

Onyx, hematite, jade, japser and agate decorate her creations which retail between $90 for a pair of earrings up to $700 for a God’s Earth necklace. Her newest collections to date include her quartz and wedding lines.

“One day I want my jewelry to make it global, said Saint Clair, “but right now I want to get into more boutiques locally.”
