Amethyst is a form of quartz. Purple has always been considered a color worn by royalty. During ancient times, Greeks believed amethyst protected people. The name Amethyst is derived from the Greek amethystos which when translated is “not drunken”. Some believe Amethyst encourages erases evil thoughts and keeps you grounded. Amethysts are found in Brazil, Argentina, Namibia, Canada and the U.S., and are commonly listed as the birthstone for those born in February.
